college diversity near its last stand

According to, the Supreme Court correspondent for The New York Times, Adam Liptak’s article “College Diversity Nears Its Last Stand”, Abigail Fisher, a white student, claims she was denied admission to the University of Texas due to her race. Her claim has caused Supreme Court judges to take time to understand the 2003 Supreme Court decision on allowing racial preferences in higher education. (allowed but did not require states to take account of race in admissions. Several states, such as California, have declined the invitation) Unlike government officials, the pursuit of diversity allows admission personnel at public university to sort people by race: even though it may not be constitutional.
District Court in Austin has came to decision that Texas was allowed to take account of person’s race to decide its admission based on 2003 Supreme Court decision, which caused her case to be hurtled to the Supreme Court. This case could put end to affirmative action at public universities, which may completely destroy diversity balance in student body at University of Texas and many other public universities.
Response:
Great ethnic and racial diversity in United States have made the nation stronger but same time created unique problems mostly unseen or unheard of in other countries. I personally think the affirmative action is protecting and breaking the two of American traditional value of equality of opportunity and competition at same time, which make this case such a controversial case. I believe the only solution towards this case is by each public universities declaring weather they take account of person’s race for admission, which make it clear for all the applicants.
