According to the Washington post, Shorter University, a private college in Georgia, demands its workers to sign the paper saying that they refuse anything related to gay, lesbian, bisexual and sex before marriage. Those people who refuse to sign the paper may lose their job according to New York Daily News. One of the unnamed employee has fear that people would find out about his sexual orientation. A bisexual student named Henderson expressed her feeling that this would affect her studying career. She ended the article with a quote from Martin Niemoller, “First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.”

Response

In my opinion, nobody can force anyone to do anything. That is against the constitution, the first amendment. However this is a private school. They get money from individual people, not the government. Therefore, basically, they can do whatever they want. That is the biggest problem America is facing right now. Everyone claims that they have their individual freedom. Another problem that happens is about religions. Some religions don’t allow their believers to be homosexual. They also say that their religions are protected by the first amendment, which is the right to practice any religion. However I think that in the open environment such as college, the more open-minded people get, the better education people will get. Therefore, making people sign the pledge is wrong.
